tbh like...kinda? it's a pretty dangerous position so they gotta be well protected! Here's a breakdown of what the armor looks like under the jerseys (the diagram or whatever is for young players but it's still all the same):

so yeah goalies end up looking a little silly because they're so padded up. but the pads, glove, and blocker are pretty heavy so goalies are actually super strong. plus they need to make crazy athletic movements (like doing the splits and stuff), and they're on the ice for the full 60 minutes unlike the rest of the team, so they're truly built different lol

something you (and any other artists) might find extra cool about goalies is that their helmets actually get custom art made for them, individualized for each goaltender. some of the designs are really amazing.

for example, here's a goalie mask design i really liked from the washington capitals' back up goalie (phoenix copley) a few years ago:

their starting goaltender (darcy kuemper) had a really cool mask commissioned for one specific game last year that was honoring the best goalie in franchise history, olie kolzig (olie the goalie, they called him) aka "kolzilla". hence the godzilla mask theme for that one game:

for certain special events, goalies might get custom pads made too! so like last year, for example, the caps' backup goalie (charlie lindgren) got these made for a special outdoor game the team was going to play in called the Stadium Series:

Was looking at refs and since Viktor has two different leg braces I was wondering, do we think he wears them simultaneously?? The refs don't perfectly line up perspective-wise so it's hard to tell but parts of the one he wears during the Hexcore scenes look like they could maybe line up with the brace that he wears over his clothes, but also some parts really don't and look like they'd be super uncomfy. Also HOW does he take these on and off. Experts weigh in
